Introduction

Gerry lives and works in the Ammochostos area of Cyprus and has spent most of his life writing about one thing or another, either on-line or on paper. The groundwork for his first real book, The Grand Theory, was laid over 35 years ago and 2,600 miles away.
After 25 years spent mostly in emergency-room nursing, family life with two children, learning Greek and designing websites, he finally remembered leaving things hanging and found the time get a little more serious about the whole literary thing and so The Grand Theory came into being.

Cats & the Coastal Path followed afterwards from four years of autumn/winter weekends spent wandering up and down the boardwalk along the coastline of eastern Cyprus with his wife, Gina.

Another Cats & the Coastal Path will doubtless follow once enough images have been amassed and ideally when the mess of the new marina at the St Nicolas limanaki* is cleared away so we have more coastal path to work with. And hopefully more cats.

Other than writing, his hobbies include cats, walking, video games, photography, Russian pocket watches and being nearly retired.

A prequel is already underway for The Grand Theory, but the pace will need to be picked up as if this one takes thirty years then the author will need be completing it in the afterlife. But for the time being, scroll down the page for samples of both books and for news on what is coming next and when.

*Limani – a port. limanaki – a small port. It used to be quite picturesque but then they decided to concrete it over to attract rich yacht owners.
Sad and funny at one and the same time.

The Grand Theory

A story set in a troubled present but with a history that reaches back into antiquity,
Following more than a brush with death, Owain is happy to enjoy his new life with Emma, and that was really where our story should have begun and ended. But consequences ensued and Owain discovers that although history may indeed be bunk, legends mask their own truths. And truths, unless kept quiet, have consequences.

“In most of the older, darker stories, getting the genie back into the bottle whilst it was still smiling was always the real challenge. Emma didn’t know how, Owain didn’t know why.
The genie itself had no opinion, but it did have some unfortunate associates.”

Cats & the Coastal Path

With Gina Barrett

Cyprus is a beautiful Mediterranean island and a popular holiday destination
All summer long the beaches and byways are busy as the hotels fill up and the tourists hit the beach, noisily determined to enjoy the sun. Happily, by late September, people start going home, the beaches empty and the weather cools.
For many it’s merely the off season, but for some of us it’s the season for walks, cool mornings, fresh sea air, and rain. It’s an ideal time to go for long strolls and visit the cats that live on the coastal path that stretches between from just beyond Pernera’s Fig Tree Bay and Ayios Nicolaos’ fishing harbour.

The photographs in this book are from the last four years or so, and show costal Cyprus at its peaceful best at a time of year when both we and the cats can venture out to enjoy the scenery along the costal path in peace.

Enough of the summertime fun-time already – it’s nearly Christmas.

I’m not normally a fan of shops playing Christmas music in November, Santa may indeed be making his list and double checking it, but I don’t have to until the end of the month at least. But having said that, there is one stubborn hotel still open and banging out the irritatingly summery muzak(sorry, pet …
